    Question

When we duplicate an existing MARC record and save the new record, the value in tag 008 pos. 00-005 "Date entered on file" is not updated. Why?

    Answer

The MARC standard does not allow this value to be updated or changed.

    https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd008a.html

"00-05 - Date entered on file
Computer-generated, six-character numeric string that indicates the date the MARC record was created. Recorded in the pattern yymmdd.
Pattern yymmdd is yy for the year, mm for the month, and dd for the day. The date entered on file in 008/00-05 is never changed."

Alma was therefore configured to add a value if the pos. 00-05 are empty.

If there is already a date, it will not be changed
