Overview

Alma’s Metadata Management System provides support for many different types of metadata schemes; workflows for authority control; bulk import, and automated exports.

Refine Advance Search (NERS 2020 #6795) - Indication Rule Form

What’s New Highlights Impact

The repository operator will be able to perform an improved advanced search for titles with high accuracy, using specific metadata fields and subfields. It will allow for the use of criteria beyond the predefined indexes.

Ability to create an indication rule in the Metadata Editor using a form, thus making it simpler to create such rules

The staff user will be able to better focus their work on relevant titles, which will make their workflow more efficient.

General Publishing – enhanced related records enrichment

What’s New Highlights Impact
Alma's General Publishing profiles will be enhanced to take into account related record changes, as well as to include information about the records that are published
  • Include institution related record information – bibliographic and inventory  ​

  • Include consortia and its members' related record information – bibliographic and inventory​

  • Incremental publishing will also be based on updates to the related records or inventory

The institution or consortia catalog will have better exposure

Linked Data – cataloging via 3rd party editor

What’s New Highlights Impact

The cataloger will be able to create Linked Data records and add them to the catalog

 

  • The cataloger will be able to create a Linked Data record using a special Alma Cloud App or Integrated 3rd Party Editor.
  • This app will integrate a standard Linked Data editor with Alma.
  • The cataloger will be able to use linked data sources while cataloging such as the Library of Congress, Wikidata and Getty.
  • It will extend Alma's support for multi-formats.

The cataloger will be able to perform catalog maintenance tasks more accurately with less effort

Linked Data – support core functionality

What’s New Highlights Impact

The cataloger will be able to search and use Linked Data records side by side with existing bibliographic records.​

 

  • Provide the ability to search Linked Open Data records in conjunction with all other records created in the different formats that exist in the catalog​
  • Provide the ability to manage relationships between records
  • Provide the ability to use Linked Open Data records in Acquisitions and Fulfillment workflows.
  • Provide the ability to publish the catalog either in the current format or  as Linked Open Data
The cataloger will be able to use the Linked Open Data record in all parts of Alma

Japan - Integration with NACSIS-CAT

What’s New Highlights Impact

Institutions using Alma in Japan will be able to continue to benefit from NACSIS services. ​

Staff will be able to perform day to day cataloging workflows in Alma, reducing the need to switch between the two systems.

 

Catalogers will be able to:​

  • Search and retrieve bibliographic records from the NACSIS catalog

  • Receive bibliographic record updates from the NACSIS catalog

  • Contribute records and updates to the NACSIS catalog

Metadata Editor – enhanced merge, combine and overlay

What’s New Highlights Impact
A new and improved method for merging and combining records in the Metadata Editor will be introduced, as part of the continuing work on the new Metadata Editor
  • Provide the ability to use one wizard to perform either merge, overlay or the combining of records in the Metadata Editor

  • Provide the ability to better control different aspects of these routines  - such as direction

  • Enhanced UX with a clear indication in preview mode of the suggested changes 

The cataloger will be able to perform catalog maintenance tasks more efficiently

Metadata Editor Merge and Combine

Authority Control – exclude heading from linking

What’s New Highlights Impact

Catalogers will be able to control specific bibliographic headings from linking or not linking to authorities

 

  • The cataloger will be able to exclude a heading either from the authority task list or the metadata editor​

  • The cataloger will be able to define excluding rules for heading linking

The cataloger will be able to perform catalog maintenance tasks more accurately with less effort
