What is happening to the HeinOnline databases?
Update Feb. 16, 2016: We recently received an updated title list from the provider for the HeinOnline International Law Association Reports [DBID: HLQ], which notes that this database contains 7 titles as of Feb. 2016. We will be replacing the current title list in the KB for DBID HLQ with this smaller number of titles on Mar. 1, 2016.Update Mar. 25, 2015: After receiving updated information from the provider regarding the status of HeinOnline Political Science Journals (Basic) [DBID: IPB], we have added titles back into the database, based upon a new file received from the provider. However, the database will remain hidden from public view. If your library is not already subscribed, you will not be able to view this database in the Knowledgebase.
Update Mar. 13, 2015: After receiving updated information from the provider regarding the status of HeinOnline International Law Association Reports [DBID: HLQ], we will not be removing this collection as originally planned. The titles will remain in this collection, and it will not be hidden from public view.
Update Feb. 9, 2015: Added information about an upcoming database name change for DBID GDP.
We will be making several changes in the 360 KB knowledgebase to selected HeinOnline databases from provider William S. Hein & Co., Inc. Please see below for five Inactive databases which will have all titles removed, a database migration for the HeinOnline Core U.S./Most Cited Law Journals collection, and a database name change for the HeinOnline U.S. Attorney General Opinions collection.
1. All Titles Removed from Inactive HeinOnline databases
ProQuest currently has title-level information for several Inactive databases from provider William S. Hein & Co., Inc. in the 360 KB knowledgebase. These databases are no longer available from the provider.
In order to maintain accurate and authoritative provider metadata (based on the 360 KB collection policy, all titles will be removed from these databases, and they will be hidden in 360 KB on Mar. 16, 2015. The following databases will become zero-titles databases, and no future subscriptions will be possible:
Database Name | DBID |
HeinOnline Intellectual Property Journals | IPE |
HeinOnline Political Science Journals (Plus) | HLR |
HeinOnline Political Science Journals (Premium) | HLT |
Actions you may need to take:
- If you are a 360 Resource Manager or 360 Counter client, you may need to make some changes before Mar. 16, 2015.
2. Database Migration
ProQuest currently has title-level information for the HeinOnline Core U.S./Most Cited Law Journals hidden database from provider William S. Hein & Co., Inc. in the 360 KB knowledgebase. Past subscribers are the only ones who can see hidden databases.
This database is now obsolete, and has been replaced by two separate database subscription options: 1) HeinOnline Core U.S. Journals and 2) HeinOnline Most-Cited Law Journals databases. In order to maintain accurate and authoritative provider metadata (based on the 360 KB collection policy), all titles will be removed from the single HeinOnline Core U.S./Most Cited Law Journals database in 360 KB on Mar. 16, 2015. The database will become a zero-titles database. (NOTE: The database code for this database is GCR.)
This change will take effect on Mar. 16, 2015:
Before Mar. 16, 2015: HeinOnline Core U.S./Most Cited Law Journals, database code GCR
After Mar. 16, 2015:
- HeinOnline Core U.S. Journals (DBID: EKAWT)
- HeinOnline Most-Cited Law Journals (DBID: GCQ)
Actions you may need to take:
• Update your Data Management by subscribing to the new database(s) instead of the old database, as applicable to your subscription with William S. Hein & Co., Inc. Information is available here regarding how to update Data Management, and 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter considerations prior to removing the old database from your profile.
• If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds direct URLs or database specific information to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records after Mar. 16, 2015.
3. Database Name Change
The database HeinOnline U.S. Attorney General Opinions has had a name change and is now the U.S. Attorney General & Department of Justice Collection.
Therefore, we will be changing the database name in the Knowledgebase. The content of the database has already been updated. The database ID [GDP], will remain the same.
This change will take effect on Mar. 16, 2015:
Before Mar. 16, 2015: HeinOnline U.S. Attorney General Opinions
After Mar. 16, 2015: HeinOnline U.S. Attorney General & Department of Justice Collection
Actions you may need to take:
- If you are a 360 MARC Updates client and have requested the custom specification that adds the database name as it appears in the Client Center/Intota to MARC records, you can expect to see some change records when you get your MARC records after Mar. 16, 2015.
- If your library uses a third-party service (such as SFX, EBSCO A-Z, etc.), custom scripts to manage data, or other non-ProQuest tools that require the database name to function, you should note the change in ProQuest's database name in order to retain the proper relationship/mapping between those tools.
