Factiva: new platform implementation in Ex Libris products (2024-2025)
- Product: Alma, 360 KB, SFX
- Product Version: all
- Relevant for Installation Type: all
In 2024, Factiva introduced a new platform and interface for customers to use. However, the “classic Factiva” will remain active for a currently indefinite period. Customers can choose one or switch feely between the two platforms.

Link customization
Each library will need to customize their XSID: this is a very long (50-64-characters) alphanumeric string. You will have received the XSID in your customized link when you signed up for the service.
Examples, where “XXXXXXXXXX” is your XSID:
https://global.factiva.com/en/sess/login.asp?XSID=XXXXXXXXXX
https://dj.factiva.com/login?XSID= XXXXXXXXXX
Classic Factiva required many customizations, including namespace, userid, and userpassword – these are not required in New Factiva linking. The only customization is the XSID, which you may also be using in Classic Factiva.
For assistance locating/identifying your XSID, please visit https://support.proquest.com/s/product/factiva to submit a case.

Search results on the new platform
Title-level links will lead you directly to the title ("source" in Factiva terms) page, but links to the new Factiva platform via link resolver will lead you to a search results page. By default, this page limits the search to results within the last 90 days. Depending on the age of the content, it may look like the link did not work. However, you should see a result if you select "all dates" instead.
Result after changing the search to "All Dates":

Dow Jones are considering changing the behavior, or allowing for the default search scope to be altered.
Embargoed content
Factiva contains titles that are not available for a certain amount of time after publication (3 days, 7 days, 30 days, etc.), known as an "embargo". This is listed on their site and in their title list as "Online Availability Target". However, Alma is currently unable to properly track day/week embargo values (only years and months), so we cannot include this information at this time. We will include these values once the development to include these is complete.
