Pivot-RP Accessibility Statement

All researchers, regardless of ability, need access to scholarly information. Ex Libris is committed to providing all our users with a fully accessible experience for research, teaching and learning.

At Ex Libris, we make every effort to ensure that our platforms – including Ex Libris Pivot-RP – can be used by everyone. Ex Libris Pivot-RP is continually designed and developed to meet Level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) and Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act for features and functions.

Accessibility features and gaps

Users of Ex Libris Pivot-RP should be able to:

  • Go directly to main content areas on the page using skip links.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader.
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software.

There may be some parts of this website that are not fully accessible:

  • In some areas the text will not reflow into a single column when you change the size of the browser window.
  • In some areas users cannot zoom in up to 400% without the use of both a horizontal and vertical scroll.
  • Some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard.
  • There are some cases where labels and headings are missing.
  • Content that is customizable by our customers cannot be guaranteed to meet color contrast requirements.

If you have a disability and need to make your computer, tablet or other device easier to use, AbilityNet is a recommended resource. We also recommend browsing free add-ons offered for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Accessibility of this platform

Keyboard Access

Most of the website can be navigated with a keyboard alone, but there are several areas that are currently inaccessible or hard to access.  These issues are as follows:
  • TrustArc Element on the Cookie Consent modal, View Cookie Settings, Privacy Policy, and Advanced
  • Browse by Keyword chart visualization in Funding Discovery
  • Import file actions (Upload, Cancel, Remove) in the Add publication form
  • Internal funding opportunity form Description/Note rich text, Citizenship/Residency clear (“x”) controls
  • Admin > Create a Newsletter: Choose Funding Opps to Share dropdown menu options and “x” controls (Note: Admin area of the website is only available to users with admin permissions.)
  • On the home page, the Received menu item has a tooltip that covers other content and not easily dismissible with a keyboard.

Tips for Navigating Pivot-RP with a Keyboard:

Use these common keyboard commands to navigate without a mouse. Some keystrokes may not work with every Operating System or Internet browser.

Labels and Headings and Form Errors

Labels have been included on form elements throughout the product, except in the following case where labels are missing:

  • Admin > Create a Newsletter: Choose Funding Opps to Share dropdown menu options and “x” controls (Note: Admin area of the website is only available to users with admin permissions.)

Most sections of the site are structured with page titles and headings that can be used to navigate and understand the information on the page. Please note the following exception:

  • On the dashboard, that Advanced Search is not included in the search landmark.

There are several cases where errors may be encountered in forms throughout the product. In one case, these errors are not clear, or error messages are not fully accessible:

  • Form elements on the Sign-Up page are not individually identified as required before submission.

Status Messages and Names, Rolls or Values

There are a number of controls within Pivot that show and hide information. While this helps sighted users avoid information overload, the status of these controls is not always communicated to assistive technologies like screen readers.
Screen readers also utilize the names and rolls given to user interface elements to describe them to users.  Pivot conforms to most HTML web standards, exceptions to this are as follows:
  • Edit Profile tabs don’t identify their state as selected/unselected
  • In the Add Publication Form, the publication type combo box is not coded to be available to assistive technology.

Page Reflow and Text Resize

The header, footer, and most text and columns reflow when the browser is resized or zoomed in so that horizontal scrollbar doesn’t appear on the page.  Exceptions to this are as follows:

  • Funding Discovery requires a vertical and horizontal scroll.
  • Search results for Awarded grants and Funding Opps require a vertical and horizontal scroll.
  • Calendar view control requires horizontal scroll to view the options in the list.
  • Tracked Opps, Saved Searches, Shared, Advisor, and Curated views require a horizontal scroll to view the options in the list.
  • Profiles can be viewed without a horizontal scroll, but some content overlaps with each other.

This product is designed to be responsive ensuring that the content remains usable when the text is resized.  Exceptions to this are as follows:

  • At zoom 200%, users are unable to scroll to all part of Account removal warning modal displayed on uncheck of Consent checkbox on Change Account screen (Note: Admin area of the website is only available to users with admin permissions.)
  • At zoom 200%, users are unable to scroll to all part of Export funding Opp details dialog (Note: Admin area of the website is only available to users with admin permissions.)

Color Contrast in Content Customizable by Our Customers

Some content that is customizable by our customers may not meet color contrast accessibility standards.  They are as follows:

  • Meaningful link text has been used throughout the non-customizable portions of the product.

Pivot cannot guarantee customer created content located on the Dashboard, Announcements or Profile page meets this criterion.

  • This product meets minimum color contrast guidelines, but Pivot-RP cannot guarantee that customer created text links meet the contrast requirements.  Also, the “ExLibris” text on the default product logo does not meet color contrast requirements. This logo is only displayed on the Sign In and Create Account pages. On all other pages on the site, the logo in the global header is customizable, so we cannot guarantee it meets contrast requirements.
