How to test EBSCO API outside of Primo?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Primo
    • Product Version: 3 and later
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct; Direct; Local; Total Care

    Desired Outcome Goal

To test and troubleshoot EBSCO API.
Primo should display results from EBSCO API if the direct URL request works if EBSCO API is configured correctly in the Primo View.

    Procedure

    1. Modify the following URL to test the EBSCO API
      http://eit.ebscohost.com/Services/SearchService.asmx/Search?db=a9h&db=ahl&db=bth&db=cin20&db=ufh&db=cja&db=ddh&db=8gh&db=hia&db=mah&db=phl&db=rih&db=rph&db=sih&db=sph&prof=customerID.groupID.profileID&pwd=password&sort=relevance&startrec=1&query=superman&format=detailed&authType=profile&numrec=10
    2. In the URL replace the values for the following parameters:
      • The db= values with your EBSCO API DBs (see Additional Information)
      • The prof= value with your EITWS profile username (see Additional Information)
      • The pwd= value with the password for the EITWS profile
      • The query= value with a term to be searched. The URL is already setup to use the value superman
    3. Paste the modified URL into a browser
    4. Examine the search results.

    Additional Information

    1. EBSCO database code can be found at http://support.epnet.com/knowledge_base/detail.php?id=1255
    2. Acquire an EITWS EBSCO profile account from the EBSCO Integration Toolkit at http://eit.ebscohost.com. The profile username has a format of customerID.groupID.profileID.
    3. Check all active EBSCO API DBs to the given profile at http://eit.ebscohost.com/Pages/MethodDescription.aspx?service=~/Services/SearchService.asmx&method=Info
