Question

What are the steps to follow in order to apply OS updates?

Answer

Basically Oracle and Apache are controlled by start/stopp via /exlibris/startup which includes also all Primo components. There is a start_stop script which is doing the job. This script will stop/start all ExLibris components on the server including Oracle and Apache. So if they are running OS update, it is better to perform this start_stop script in order to stop all Ex Libris components, and then to restart them all after the update.

In order to apply OS updates,

  1. You can stop everything related to Ex Libris applications using
    /exlibris/startup/start_stop stop.
This will stop everything related to Ex Libris apps
  2. Run OS Update
  3. After OS apply is finished, you can start everything by
    /exlibris/startup/start_stop start

Note: You need to do both stop and start as root.
