    1. Why do I see different results for the same event with the same filters when using different chart types?

You might see different results when changing visualizations in Mixpanel due to how different chart types handle and display data. This is a common issue that occurs for several reasons:

      • Different sorting logic—When switching between visualizations like bar charts and line charts, the sorting logic changes.

      • Segment limits—Different visualizations have different limits on how many segments they display

      • Time segmentation—Some visualizations calculate metrics across the entire time period (bar charts, pie charts, metric charts), while others segment by time (line charts, column charts).

      • Handling of undefined/null values—Different visualizations might handle undefined or null values differently. You can remove these from your reports by unchecking them in the visualization legend or using filters.

      • Data View context—If you are using Data Views, a report's results will change depending on which Data View you select.

    2. My institution is located in Australia. Can I change the data residency to Australia?

No. Mixpanel offers only two data residency options: US and EU.

    3. Can I change the Definition Type of a session in the project settings?

No, we have chosen and implemented a timeout mechanism to calculate sessions. The Session Timeout property (Cog icon > Settings > Project Settings > Overview > Session Settings) lets you customize the duration of sessions.

    4. Why doesn’t a particular property appear in the drop-down list when I try to filter the Session Start event?

Mixpanel sends some default properties with the Session Start and Session End events. We have added the User Type property for you, but you can change it or add other properties if needed. You can add three custom properties to your Session Properties property (Cog icon > Settings > Project Settings > Overview > Session Settings).

    5. Is SSO supported for Mixpanel?

No, due to security reasons. The only method we allow is the "Invite Only" process. This ensures that your organization remains undiscoverable, and new users can only gain access through an invitation from an administrator.

This method allows the Project Admin complete control over who can access the project and its data.

Important tip: After your first sign-in, go to your personal settings, set a private password, and save it in your browser for easy access.

    6. Am I seeing only my institution's data?

Yes, you can only see the data from your institution.

Only an NZ Project Admin who has opted for the Centralized structure (for consortia) can view the data from all IZs connected to the consortia. However, IZ users can only access data from their institution.

    7. Can I use OBI and Mixpanel?

For the NDE UI, we are sending data exclusively to Mixpanel, but you can still use OBI to access and analyze your past data.

    8. I shared a board by moving it, and now it has disappeared from my project. What do I do?

To avoid this issue in the future, always duplicate the board before moving it. Here’s what you can do to ensure the board remains accessible in your project after moving it:

      1. Go to the project where you shared the board.
      2. Duplicate the board in that project.
      3. Move the duplicated board back to your original project.

    9. Why do I see a "not set" value?

      Incomplete Data Transmission:
      1. Data might not be sent with all details due to network issues, server-side problems, data processing delays, or data size limitations.
      2. Ensure that the event is filtered with the correct properties. For instance, filtering by the search term property might result in "not set" values when analyzing a search event. This occurs because the Advanced Search property is also included. The Advanced Query String property represents the search term for advanced searches. Therefore, the "not set" values are likely from advanced searches not represented in your analysis unless you include the Advanced Query String property. Alternatively, you can create two separate reports for each type of search.
Additionally, it is possible to exclude and filter out the "not set" values from the results. This can help clean up your data and ensure that your analysis focuses only on meaningful and relevant data points.

    10. Someone changed the report from a board I created.

Set its permissions to Viewer in the Manage Sharing Modal to prevent changes.

    11. Someone changed the title of a board I created.

Set its permissions to Viewer in the Manage Sharing Modal to prevent changes.

    12. Why can't I subscribe another member of my project to a board? All attempts return the "insert valid email" error message.

This can happen if you try to add members to a board you did not create or if the board is private. To fix it, you can duplicate the board to become its owner or set its permissions to Viewer.

    13. Why do I see that my data is being filtered?

This might happen if your institution is part of a consortium. By creating a data view specific to each institution, you ensure your data privacy. This way, only you and the members of your institution will have access to your data.

    14. How can I test the data?

Since the data is injected immediately in Mixpanel, you can test it in real-time:
      1. Execute an event in Primo VE (such as a search, ensuring you use an event in the data design list (see Mixpanel Events and Properties).
      2. Open the Events tab in Mixpanel, ensuring the timeline is set to Today.
      3. Refresh the page if needed to see the latest events.
      4. Select the arrow next to the user icon to explore the event properties.

In addition, you can inspect the events directly in your browser using Developer Tools:
      1. Press F12 to open Developer Tools.
      2. Navigate to the Network tab.
      3. Type analytics in the search/filter box to filter relevant requests.
      4. Execute an event in Primo VE (such as a search).
      5. Look for the event just sent and review its details, including all properties.

By using both Mixpanel and Developer Tools together, you can ensure that the event is being tracked properly and contains the expected data.

    15. Why do I see this banner?

Banner Message - Unlock Product and Customer Insights

Banner Message - Unlock Product and Customer Insights

This may occur when no data has been injected into the project. You can try sending some events manually and then refresh Mixpanel to see if there are any changes. If this doesn't resolve the issue, it might be due to a configuration error or an incorrect token. Please get in touch with our support team for further assistance.

    16. How do I change the data type values to count values as distinct in a report?

We send the values of some of our properties (such as Facet Type, Facet Type Name, Facet Value, Facet Value Name, Resource Type, etc.) in a list. For more information, see Mixpanel Events and Properties.

      This is helpful as follows:

      • Capturing Multiple Values in One Property—A List/Array property can store multiple related values within a single event. For example, if a user selects multiple facets, all these interactions can be stored as an array in one property.

      • Distinct Counting Within Arrays—Mixpanel allows you to count distinct values within a List property. This is particularly useful for understanding how many unique items a user has interacted with or chosen.

      • Aggregating Across Events—You can aggregate distinct counts across multiple events to get insights at a higher level.

For example, to change the data type of the Facet Type property to the List (string) type, select the Ellipsis icon > Data Type > List > String.

Change the Data Type of a Property
    17. Why do I see the Facet Types property in the OTB report but can't find it in the property list when I try to build a custom report?

This is an old property we used to send to exclude facet values associated with it. Since we no longer send this property, you can skip using it. The shared board was created specifically for the focus group, so we included this filter. Additionally, if you select the Facet Usage event and try to add the Facet Types property, it won’t appear because we now label it Facet Type.

    18. Why can't I see the list of users for creating a cohort in the Users tab?

By default, the Users tab displays a list of users with profiles, which is not supported. To see the list of users for your institution, select the Users With Profile link and select the Users option.

    19. Why do I see differences when comparing the Primo Analytics and Mixpanel data?

When comparing data from Primo Analytics and Mixpanel, differences often arise due to variations in data collection, processing, and interpretation methodologies used by the two platforms. These differences can come from factors such as the following:

      • Data Collection Methods: Each platform may track and record data differently, leading to variations in what data is captured and when.

      • Metric Definitions: The way metrics are defined and calculated can differ. For example, what one platform considers a "session" or "event" might be interpreted differently by another.

      • Data Processing Techniques: The platforms may use different approaches to process, filter, and aggregate data, which can impact the results and granularity of the reports.

      • Timeframes and Updates: Differences in data update frequency and how time zones are handled can result in temporary or consistent mismatches.

However, when comparing reports, you should use the same measuring type. For example, the default measuring type in Mixpanel when building a report is Unique Users, while in Primo Analytics, it is Actions. You may want to change the measuring type in Mixpanel to Total Events.

    20. I am a project admin in a Centralized (NZ) structure, but I don’t have access to the data views in my project. I have access only to the no data: default view.

As a project admin in a Centralized (NZ) structure, you receive a project with data views set up by the Ex Libris team. By default, you cannot access these data views because you did not create them yourself. Like any other user, your default Data View is no data: default view.

You can easily grant yourself access to any data view within the project since you are the Project Admin:

      1. Open the Data Views page (Cog icon > Settings > Project Settings > Data Views).

        MXP_DataView_Selection.png

      2. Select the Data View to which you want to add the user.

      3. Select the Data Views Users tab.

        MXP_DataViewUsers_Tab.png

      4. Select Add User (this will add the user with their existing permissions within the project).

      5. Select your Name/Email from the list.

      6. Select Save.

      7. Repeat these actions on each data view you want to access.

    21. I am a project admin and want to invite new users.

To invite a user to a Project:

      1. Open the Project Users page (Cog Icon > Settings > Project Settings > Project Users).

      2. Select the Invite Users button.

        MXP_ProjectUsers_InviteUser.png

Open the Invite Users Dialog Box
      3. In the Invite Users dialog box, please enter the following fields:

        • User—Type the user's Email Address and select it to add the user to the invite list. To add more users, select the Add another User button.

        • Role—Select a role for the invited user.

      4. Select Invite to send an invitation to the specified users.

    22. My University requested that Public Boards be activated, but the Project Settings shows that the setting is disabled for our account.

If you want to activate this feature, ask your Project Admin to activate it:

      1. Open the Public Boards page (Cog Icon > Settings > Project Settings > Public Boards).

        MXP_EnableBoards.png

        Open the Public Boards Page
      2. Select the Enable for Project button.

    23. Some charts don’t support the Time Comparison.

That is correct. Depending on the exact configuration chosen, certain comparison operations may be disabled. For more information, see the Supported Charts documentation

    24. Can the city or state be included in the data?

Due to privacy concerns, the city and state data is excluded from our datasets. This information is filtered out at the server level.

    25. Since I am the admin for more than one project, do I have one login to Mixpanel or more?

If you have provided the Ex Libris team with the same email address for all the institutions you manage, you only need one login and one set of user credentials. Once logged in, all your projects will be available in the drop-down menu at the screen's top right corner.

    26. Sometimes, I see the institution code in the institution name property or a code value in a property that should display a label. Why does this happen?

This issue can occur due to performance limitations. When the system experiences a high load or performance issues, it may display code values instead of the proper labels.

    27. When I created Mixpanel accounts for my colleagues, I was only asked to enter their emails. Invitations were sent automatically; however, I couldn’t add names, so now all invited users are listed as "default" in the user table.

The only way to update the name field is for each user to do it themselves. Users must select the Cog Icon > Settings > Personal Settings > Your Profile to update the name field and other relevant fields.

      MXP_PersonalSettings_YourProfile.png

Update Personal Settings > Your Profile Tab
    28. My Mixpanel report displays the user group code instead of the description, but my colleagues are unfamiliar with these codes because only the descriptions are shown in Alma. I want to update the values in my reports to show the descriptions. How can I achieve this?

There are a few methods to do so, and they are all involved with creating a custom property - check the following docs

    29. I noticed unexplained spikes in my reports. Is there a tool that can help me identify the cause?

Mixpanel can analyze various points in the timeline. Right-click on the date you want to investigate and select Root Cause Analysis to see if it answers your questions.

      MXP_RootCauseAnalysis.png

Select the Root Cause Analysis Option
    30. Why do we sometimes see mixed results when applying a breakdown?

When applying a breakdown in Mixpanel, we expect each facet type to display only its relevant values. However, sometimes unexpected values appear under different facet types. This happens because the Primo UI allows users to select multiple facets, and to support this, the data is stored as a list array. Since facet values are stored in a list, when we apply a breakdown, Mixpanel includes any values that were part of the selected list—even if they don’t strictly belong to the selected facet type. This can lead to situations where facet values appear under multiple facet types, which may seem incorrect but result from how the data is structured. For more details, see How Data Type Affects Property Analysis in Mixpanel.

    31. When using the "On Campus" property, the report only shows the value "No," even when actions are performed from campus.

This issue may occur if the IP ranges for the Alma library have not been configured. Verify the IP range settings, update them if needed, and recheck the reports.

    32. Is there a way of permanently changing the column width for a report?

Based on the provided knowledge sources, there is no specific information about permanently changing the column width for a report in Mixpanel. However, the sources do mention some related customization options for charts and boards that might be relevant:
Chart Customization: Mixpanel offers various chart customization options, including axis and theme customization. However, these don't specifically mention column width adjustments. https://docs.mixpanel.com/docs/featu...-customization

    33. My institution is connected to Mixpanel, but when I try to select a metric in my reports, I don't see any events.

This may be caused by your events being set to Hidden in the Lexicon due to an incorrect configuration in your Data Governance settings (which our handled with the Lexicon page).

      To fix this:

      1. Select Lexicon > Events to open the Events tab.

        MXP_Lexicon_Events.png

        Lexicon > Events Tab
      2. For each event with the Status field set Hidden, edit the field and clear the Hidden check box to make the event visible.

        MXP_HiddenEvents.png

        Hidden Status for Event
      3. Select Save.

    34. When I compare events and session numbers, why are there different numbers in the OBI?

Mixpanel focuses on user-level behavior and real-time event tracking, while OBI typically aggregates data for broader business intelligence purposes. Differences in data collection, session definitions, and event deduplication may often lead to variations in the reported numbers. As a result, it is not recommended to make direct comparisons between the results in OBI Analytics and Mixpanel.
