Primo VE Roadmap Highlights: 2026 - 2027
Overview
The Primo VE roadmap provides a preview of of what is planned for 2026 and what is expected to become available in the first and second half of the year.Additionally, we are providing a glimpse of areas we are looking at for the first half of 2027. The roadmap is based on community feedback, ideas from the Idea Exchange, CERV voted enhancements, and strategic enhancements that serve longer term goals. This published roadmap focuses on the highlights. We may add other development items over time, which will appear in the release notes.
The information below represents our primary planned development. Roadmap items are listed by category and timeline, followed by additional details when available. If feature development and design are not complete, details will be available closer to release.
As we work closely with the Primo Working Group while designing some some enhancements, we’ll deliver more relevant information to the community by sharing prototypes, workflows, and additional details.
In 2026, with the NDE UI (Next Discovery Experience) available to all customers, our focus will be on supporting onboarding and go-live activities. We will continue delivering NDE UI functionalities as outlined in the published feature plan, while prioritizing customer feedback and issue resolution for institutions transitioning to the NDE UI.
- The content on this page is informational and may be subject to change without prior notice at Clarivate's sole discretion.
- UI enhancements and non-critical fixes will be applied to the NDE UI rather than to the original UI. This prioritization ensures that efforts are focused on the interface that will serve all Primo VE customers going forward.
- Starting in 2026, Primo Classic (BO) updates will be delivered annually, focusing on security and system stability.

Next Discovery Experience - NDE UI – Focus and Priorities:
In 2026, we will continue to deliver functionalities as published on the Go NDE – Available Features page, ensuring all features are ready and available for use.
The NDE timeline is as follows:
- 2026-2027 — Mass Onboarding: Institutions plan and execute their transition to the NDE UI, supported by onboarding resources, documentation, and training from Go NDE.
- January 2028: NDE UI Exclusive: Exclusive UI for Primo VE, following the gradual sunset of the original UI.
Our focus will include:
- Support onboarding customers by prioritizing go-live institutions, addressing feedback, and resolving issues to ensure a smooth transition in 2026.
- Provide additional training, documentation, and cohort programs to support a smooth transition.
- Listen to community feedback and user testing, incorporating NDE ideas that have been added to the planned roadmap.
- Suggest a configuration-first approach over customization for complex workflows. For example, editing landing page (see CERV 28360) or extending request forms by adding more configuration. Additional options can be considered based on feedback.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards and address identified issues (see Primo Accessibility Statement | Clarivate).
- Delivering new functionalities on top of the NDE UI, which will be the primary interface for Primo VE.
As part of our ongoing commitment to compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level A and AA, two accessibility audit rounds were conducted for the NDE UI in 2025. For more details, see the full Accessibility Compliance Report for NDE UI (VPAT 2.5 and WCAG 2.2).
In the upcoming year, we plan to:
- Address the issues identified in these audits, along with additional findings from customer feedback and internal testing
- Share and update the status of the identified issues in the Known Issues Portal
- Conduct an additional audit in Q2 2026 to review enhancements delivered after the NDE UI General Release (Nov 2025) and validate the resolution of reported issues
- Update the VPAT based on audit findings
- Enrich accessibility customization guidelines
We are committed to accessibility in both the original interface and during the transition to the NDE UI. All reported accessibility issues are reviewed and prioritized. While the original interface is mature and has undergone multiple external audits, we continue to address issues there as well. Some gaps are resolved more effectively in the NDE UI due to its updated design and advanced accessibility framework. See the Known Issues portal for details on both interfaces.
In addition, as part of the project to enrich content with accessibility metadata, Primo will enable users to filter and identify resources by accessibility indicators. Read more about content enrichment here, and Inlcude Accessibility Metadata in Display & Filters.
With the NDE UI General Release, institutions will use Mixpanel for advanced user engagement analytics. In the coming year, we will support customer onboarding and adoption of Mixpanel. As new enhancements are delivered in the NDE UI, we will continue to add and update events sent to Mixpanel, and provide additional training and help institutions make effective use of analytics.
Existing OBI Analytics will remain as historical analytics for institutions transitioning to the NDE UI, while continuing to support stability for those using the original UI.

Additional Details
Allow Flexibility with Shared Digital Materials in Consortia

| What's New? | Highlights | Impact |
|---|---|---|
|
Currently, when institutions within a network share their digital assets, these resources are included in both the network scope and the individual institution’s scope. This means that smaller institutions often see many records within their local scope that are not their own, which can clutter their data. This enhancement will allow institutions to exclude shared digital resources from their local institution scopes, improving the clarity of their own records.
|
|
|
Improve Handling of Related Records
| What's New? | Highlights | Impact |
|---|---|---|
|
Introduces new logic for handling linked record relationships, making the “Contains” relation more accurate in Alma and Primo.
|
|
Libraries benefit from improved resource discovery and a better user experience. Holdings are displayed only where appropriate, reducing confusion and ensuring location-based filtering works correctly. This change provides transparency, consistency, and reliability in how related records are presented and used.

|
|
|
Linked Data: Add Source Beyond LC - GND
| What's New? | Highlights | Impact |
|---|---|---|
|
Extend Linked Data enrichment in Primo VE to support GND identifiers in addition to LC identifiers, enabling broader and more accurate entity linking.

|---|---|---|
|
Ability to define custom normalization rules for key search fields (Date, Creator/Contributor, Subject, Language).
|
Currently, Primo VE provides out-of-the-box normalization rules for search and facet fields. With this enhancement, you will be able to define custom normalization rules for specific search fields (Date, Creator/Contributor, Subject, Language) and restore them to the default out-of-the-box definitions when needed.

|
NDE Landing Page Editing via Alma Configuration
CERV Enhancement (ID #28360)
| What's New? | Highlights | Impact |
|---|---|---|
|
Enables library staff to easily create, update and manage NDE landing page content directly through a dedicated configuration in Alma.
|
So far, the NDE landing page could only be edited by customizing HTML, including separate support per user language. Institutions could either base their changes on the provided layout or fully replace it. With this enhancement, institutions can choose to edit the NDE landing page through a dedicated configuration in Alma, relying on the out-of-the-box layout.
This option allows reordering sections and configuring the following:
When using this option, no HTML knowledge is required, and all changes are managed through dedicated configuration in Alma, providing a more accessible workflow. Institutions can choose whether to use this configuration-based approach or continue editing the landing page using HTML, which offers greater flexibility, including the ability to fully replace the layout.
|
Improves library workflows by expanding configuration options over customization, reducing reliance on development skills and enabling more streamlined, efficient processes.
|
Integrating Web of Science Data Insights into Primo
| What's New? | Highlights | Impact |

|
Allows users to apply wildcards within exact phrase searches, improving flexibility when searching for partial or variable terms in both Basic and Advanced Search.
|
The scope of wildcard support within phrase searches includes CDI and Primo VE. This capability may impact ranking behavior compared to standard searches and can return partial results in cases where full query expansion is computationally expensive.
|
Improves search flexibility and precision, helping users find variations of terms
