2025 – Discipline Section Updates

In May 2025, we updated the Discipline section in Research Professional. We updated their placement in the discipline hierarchy for 267 terms, renamed 20 terms and added 4 new terms.

New discipline terms and labels will improve indexing and optimize searches for specific research fields. The realignment of terms with more appropriate parent terms will further improve discipline searches, leveraging the Advanced feature of ‘Broader matches’ and ‘Narrower matches,’ which automatically include the terms 'up' or 'down' the discipline hierarchy tree. You can find all discipline updates in the Research Professional Updates document:

• In the first section, ‘Newly added discipline terms,’ you will find four new discipline terms.

• In the second section, ‘Hierarchy updates,’ you will find all 267 discipline terms whose parent has been updated in the discipline tree.

• In the third section, ‘Renamed discipline terms,’ you will find 20 discipline terms that have been relabeled.
