    Problem Symptoms:
    Oracle ran out of space, we added storage and reboot but s+ get the following massage:

    ERROR:
    ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
    Process ID: 0
    Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0

    The following message appears in oracle logs:

    Errors in file /exlibris/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/dps3/dps3/trace/dps3_ora_6721.trc:
    ORA-10873: file 1 needs to be either taken out of backup mode or media recovered
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/exlibris1/oradata/dps3/dps3_system01.dbf'
    ORA-10873 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE OPEN...

    Cause:
    Oracle was restarted during backup

    Resolution:
    In sqlplus:
    alter database end backup;
    alter database open;
