Format Identifier

Format Identifier

The Format Identifier plug-in is used in order to allow customers to use a customized tool for identifying the format of the deposited file.

Multiple Format Identifiers

Institutions can optionally configure multiple format identifiers to enhance the reliability of the service and identify potential ambiguities. The first format identifier must be a PRONOM-based tool. Currently, the output of the additional tools are saved and searchable, but do not have operational impact on the system.

Plug-in Parameters

Depending on the specific implementation, a plug-in may or may not require parameters. If the plug-in does require parameters, they are populated during installation of a new instance of the plug-in.

Implementations

Rosetta includes an implementation of DROID as a Format Identifier plug-in. You can add additional format identifier plug-ins, but you must include at least one PRONOM based tool, and this tool must be listed first. If you implement several PRONOM based tools including DROID, DROID must be first.
