Summon: Full-Text vs. Abstracting and Indexing ( AandI) Content and Authentication
- Product: Summon
What is provided by full-text publishers versus those that include Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) services?
Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) services provide specialized information that full-text publishers do not provide. The Summon service takes advantage of both types of information in CDI.
Publishers and A&I companies do not necessarily provide standard sets of data: it depends on the company or service. We take information from any source that will provide table of contents, subject headings, full text, metadata content, and more:
-
Table-of-contents information comes primarily from publishers, but some might come from A&I or other sources.
-
Subject headings can come from any source: A&I, full-text providers, etc.
-
Full text comes from full-text providers, including open-access databases.
Our list of providers is substantial. Because article information comes from multiple sources, which we de-duplicate, we find it more useful to provide lists of full-text e-journals covered in the Summon service.
