    Introduction

The Web of Science Times Cited count is the sum of all citing articles from the Web of Science Core Collection. Institutions that do not subscribe to the Web of Science Core Collection and use Summon for discovery services may access a free view of the Citing Articles summary page.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. My institution subscribes to Web of Science. Why do I see the free view page?

You can exit the free view session in Web of Science by connecting to your institutional network or remote login system.

    2. Why doesn't the Times Cited count and the number of displayed results match?

The free view summary page displays a maximum of 25 records. If the Times Cited count is higher than 25, only a 25-record subset will be available to view.

    3. I can’t click on every link on the page. Is this an error?

The following links are clickable on the free view page:

      • Article title

      • Journal/publication title

      • Full text access links

      • Sort by options (by default it is set to ‘Newest first’)

      • Sign in/Register buttons

      • Create a free researcher profile link (in the left hand navigation bar)

The following fields are not clickable on the free view page:

      • The citation and reference count of individual records

      • Refine results options

    4. Why can’t I see the Times Cited count for every record in my library catalog?

Times Cited count is calculated from the Web of Science Core Collection exclusively. Therefore, it is only available for content that is indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. This count may differ from citation counts that are not exclusive to the Core Collection.

For a complete list of journals indexed in the Core Collection, see the Master Journal List (or MJL).
