    Are MARC records read-only during regens?

    Question

    Are MARC records made read-only when a regen is running?

    Answer

    Some type of MARC record is typically set to read-only during a regen. Which records depends on the type of regen.

    • For bibliographic (bib) keyword and bib left-anchored regens
      • Bib records will be read-only.
      • Bib records can be searched, but cannot be created or updated in Cataloging, Circulation or Acquisitions.
    • For holdings(MFHD) keyword and MFHD left-anchored regens
      • MFHD records will be read-only.
      • MFHD records can be searched, but cannot be created/updated in Cataloging, Circulation or Acquisitions.
    • For authority left-anchored regens
      • Authority records will be read-only.
      • Authority records can be searched, but cannot be created or updated in Cataloging. Staff in Cataloging, Acquisitions and Circulation will be able update/create bibs and mfhds.
    • For headings regens
      • Bib and authority records will be read-only.
      • Bib and authority records cannot be created/updated in Cataloging, Circulation or Acquisitions.

    Additional Information

    For all regens, staff in Circulation will be able to circulate items, as item records are not affected.
