Records with Armenian script fail MARC21 character set validation

Problem Symptoms

• MARC21 character set validation enabled in Cataloging
• Armenian characters returned as invalid when Save to DB

Cause

Working as designed. Armenian characters are not part of MARC-8 repertoire and so are not part of MARC21 Repertoire.cfg file.

Resolution

Only characters that map from MARC-8 to Unicode (and back) can be included in the default MARC21 Repertoire.cfg file distributed with Voyager clients.

Additional Information

If validating characters outside the MARC-8 repertoire does not interfere with character mapping for other purposes (export to other systems, etc.), can add characters to file locally to support validation in the Cataloging client.
