What is the Voyager Global Data Change "Update Location" configuration setting

    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: 8
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Multi-Tenant Direct, Dedicated-Direct, Local, TotalCare

    Question

I am submitting a Data Change Job in Global Data Change and see the "Update Location" configuration drop-down.  What does this selection do?

    Answer

    • The Location selected in the "Update Location" drop-down will be recorded in the Location field in Voyager's BIB_HISTORY table.
    • That Location is displayed in the Cataloging Location column in the History tab of the Cataloging Client
    • It does not change the Location in the MFHD.

    Additional Information

See the Global Data Change User's Guide, Chapter 5, for more information1

1Note that versions of the Global Data Change User's Guide previous to version 10.2 fail to mention that this drop-down is activated for Suppress and Unsuppress consequence data change jobs. In the 10.2 version of the User's Guide, this is rectified (as per "Updates to This Guide"):

Otherwise when one of the rules you select has a Suppress/Suppress All or Unsuppress/Unsuppress All consequence selected, the Submit Data Change Job dialog box displays the following additional option:

    • Update Location

The functionality of GDC did not change, it was simply an omission in the documentation.
