    Question

What kind of validation does Global Data Change perform during data change jobs?

    Answer

Only minimal record valiation is performed.  As per the documentation, GDC checks that the data are "parseable according to MARC 21 standards."

It is not checking for the quality of the record according to cataloging standards, only the MARC structure.

For example, GDC is checking that fields/subfields have the internal termination control characters, that fields 001-009 have no subfields and 010-999 do have subfields, and that the leader is 24 characters long.

    Additional Information

See Chapter 3, "Rule Considerations," of the Global Data Change User's Guide.
