    Question

What does my library need to do when adding a ProQuest Ebook Central database?

    Answer

In order to ensure that patrons can access ebook content from your A-to-Z list, Summon, 360 Link, etc., use the following steps:

    Database Linking Instructions
    1. Search by provider, ProQuest Ebooks, to find your desired database.
    2. Navigate to the Database Details page for the database.
    3. Click on Edit.
    4. In the Custom URL field, enter the custom URL you use to access the database using all lower-case letters. For example, your library's URL will be http://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/exlsite, where "exlsite" will be substituted by your library's Site ID for ProQuest Ebooks.
    • Do not include a trailing slash in this URL (for example, http://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/exlsite/ is incorrect).
    • If the link is incorrect, then that will break the direct linking in Summon.
    1. Check the Display In checkboxes for all of the services in which you want the database to appear.
    2. Click on Save.
    Title Linking Instructions
    1. From your Client Center homepage, go to the Holding URL Replacement page
    2. Click Add
    3. In the Database Code field, enter the code for the database you are configuring
    4. There will be three available options. For any Ebook Central collection, we will use Option 1: Replacement
    • You will need to note the placeholder for the Ebook Central titles, which can vary from "exlsite" or "<SiteId>"
    1. Under the "Look For" field, enter the identified placeholder ("exlsite" or "<SiteId>")
    2. Next, in the "Replace With" field, add your Ebook Central Site ID
    3. Click Save

For assistance in configuring title-level linking, contact Support using the Support Portal to request setting up title-level links. In your request, please include the following:

    • Database name
    • Ebook Central site ID

    Additional Information

    • Client Center: Automated Holdings Management
    • Intota: Automated Holdings Management
If the custom URL is incorrect it will break direct-linking in Summon.
    • You may need to untrack other ebook databases.
