360 Link: 1-Click: Some Providers Don't Work with Helper Window

    • Product: 360 Link

Do all providers work with 1-Click when the helper window has been activated?

Note: The information on this page is for libraries using legacy 360 Link, not 360 Link with Index-Enhanced Direct Linking (IEDL).
    • If you are not sure if your library uses the legacy or the improved interface with Index-Enhanced Direct Linking, check your 360 Link Administration Console settings.
The 1-Click Helper Window works with most providers. However, there are exceptions where the 1-Click Helper Window either is excluded (and patrons are taken to 360 Link results page) or the Helper Window displays with a slightly different behavior.
The Helper Window is excluded if a provider does not allow their content to display in frames. When this occurs, the patron will see the 360 Link results page and can then click on the full-text link. Highwire is the one provider we know of that does not allow their content to display in frames.
The Helper Window will display in a slightly different behavior for known providers in which the Helper Window does not work reliably in Internet Explorer. Known providers include the following:
    • AIP (link.aip.org)
    • American Association for the Advancement of Science (sciencemag.org)
    • H.W. Wilson (hwwilsonweb.com)
    • Informit (search.informit.com.au)
    • MetaPress (www.metapress.com)
    • Springer-Verlag (www.springerlink.com)
By default, an additional link will display in the Helper Window if an on-site patron using Internet Explorer is trying to access full text from the above providers. Clicking the additional link will re-load the page, without the Helper Window. Remote (off-campus) users will not see the Helper Window with additional link; instead, they will be presented with the 360 Link results page.
If the above default settings do not meet your needs, there are a few options you can consider by contacting us using the Contact Us menu near the top of this page. When you submit the question, please include a description of what you are experiencing with the Helper Window so that we can suggest an appropriate option.
NOTE: If your patrons are having problems with cookies in their browsers and they are accessing from off-campus, then read this document about errors when using proxies.
