<MG> Holding Record automatic creation of 852 subfields

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
When doing a create of a Holding Record and then Edit to work on it in the Catalog Editor, the 852 field only comes in with subfields $h and $i. It should come in with all the appropriate subfields for 852; e.g. $a,b,c,e,f,g, etc. Where do we set the default subfields?

I have checked SYS60 (holding library)/pc_tab/catalog/marc_exp.dat. This is not the correct table.

    Resolution:
The best way to handle this is to create templates for the various collection codes that your libraries might want to use. For example, if there is a library that has sublibrary = ABC and collection code = XYZ, then you could create a template in the xxx60 library named abc852.mrc

This template would look like this:
    DB L LOCAL
    SYSID L 0
    FMT L HO
    8520 L $$bABC$$cXYZ

You may include as many default subfields as you need.

Then after creating the HOL you would highlight the 852 (which has just the call number to begin with). Then right click and select Expand from Template. Select abc852.mrc.

If you started with this as the 852:

    852 0 h M1533.R89
    i M6

you will end up with this:

    852 0 b ABC
    c XYZ
    h M1533.R89
    i M6

You can create a template for every library that wants to use this method. nbvcThen the staff user just has to pick the one they want.
