    Question

    What is the VIR01 library?

    Answer

    VIR01 is a shared library which is used for storing www_ and pc_server session information, OPAC search result sets, and z39.50 search results.

    These temporary tables include:
    z63, z64, and z65 session tables;
    z60 (record lock table);
    z05 (set) and z110 (result-set tables); and
    (temporary) z00, z01, etc. records generated by z39.50 searches.

    Additional Information

    The clear_vir01 job clears out the VIR01 tables. See also article clear_vir01 in hot mode or in cold mode?

    Though most of the tables don't grow so rapidly, some, such as the z05 and z110 result set tables grow very rapidly and could use up the available disk space.

    clear_vir01 should be run at least weekly; most sites run it nightly, via the job_list.
