Adding consecutive spaces in cataloging draft

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 15.5

    Description:
How can I insert multiple consectutive spaces in a MARC record in the Aleph Cataloging module. Refer to AACR2r 1.1G3 which deals with multiple titles and authors on the chief source of information. In its instruction it includes the need for adding a periord followed by "two" spaces immediately following the 1st statement of responsibility in the 245 field. In the cataloging draft in Aleph however the system does not seem to allow hitting the space bar twice consecutively in the cataloging draft. Is there a way of adding an additional space?

They would like two spaces before the word "And" in the following 245.

245 14 $aThe castle of Otranto / $c by Horace Walpole. And, The man of feeling / by Henry Mackenzie ; edited by Laura Mandell.

    Resolution:
If you want to indicate multiple consecutive spaces, you need to use the circumflex mark (^) to represent each of the spaces. These will be saved, and thus preserve the desired spacing. They will be stripped out of display in all instances, except in the native Cataloging module. You may enter as many ^ marks as necessary for your purpose.
