Aleph Installation Kit documentation: perform download as root
- Article Type: General
- Product: Aleph
- Product Version: 20
Description:
In the Aleph Installation Kit documentation, pg. 11 states the following: "Steps that should be performed by the root or oracle user have a corresponding note. All other steps should be performed as the aleph user."
Then, on page 13 the documentation prompts one to download the Aleph software using the AIK menu. Because there is no indication saying that this should be done as root or oracle, I did this step as the aleph user. These errors appeared:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Download software from ftp server
- 1. Download Aleph software
- 2. Download Oracle software and third party products
- 3. Check if Aleph software download successfully completed
- 4. Check if Oracle and products download successfully completed
Enter key (q to quit)[q]: 1
./param_bash.ini: line 167: /exlibris/ftp_from_exlibris/aik/log/aleph_installation_kit.log: Permission denied
./param_bash.ini: line 168: /exlibris/ftp_from_exlibris/aik/log/aleph_installation_kit.log: Permission denied
./param_bash.func: line 48: /exlibris/ftp_from_exlibris/aik/log/aleph_installation_kit.log: Permission denied
Download ALEPH software
./param_bash.func: line 51: /exlibris/ftp_from_exlibris/aik/log/aleph_installation_kit.log: Permission denied
./param_bash.func: line 52: /exlibris/ftp_from_exlibris/aik/log/aleph_installation_kit.log: Permission denied
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It appears that since /aik/log was created by root (per page 9 of the documentation), then the subsequent log file cannot be written to by the aleph user.
We will continue with step 1.1, but as the root user. Once all the files are ftp'd, we will then use chown to change the ownership from root to aleph.
Resolution:
A note has been added to the AIK installation document to perform the download as "root".
