Under what conditions is the "Item or like copy is on shelf. Cannot place hold request" message produced? (We want to be able to place holds on on-order items and it won't let us.)
The message "Item or like copy is on shelf. Cannot place hold request" is #1130 in ./error_eng/check_hold_request. It is produced by the check_hold_request_g program under the following conditions:
1. the user is not allowed to place holds on available items (tab15.lng, col. 8** + Z305-HOLD-ON-SHELF not = "Y"), and
2a. the attempted hold is for the exact item, when the item is not on loan and doesn't have an existing hold with a status of "S" (that is, on the hold-shelf, for which the user has been sent an "item available" notice); or
2b. the attempted hold is for an exact or like item, when all of the items are on loan or have an existing hold with a status of "S"
** Note: Whether the user can place a hold on an available item is determined by tab15.lng, col. 8. If col. 8 has "Y", then (unless the user has the Z305-HOLD-ON-SHELF "Y") an availability check is performed -- and only unavailable items can be held. If you want to be able to place holds on items which are not on loan and not on the hold-shelf -- such as on-order, at-bindery, etc., items --, then a value of "T" should be used in column 8 of the tab15 entry:
! T - item availability is not checked when hold request is placed,
! because hold requests are always allowed (e.g. short-term loan,
! lost, on order, etc.). However, for p_cir_12 (print request
! slips) and ue_06 (online printing of request slips),
! item is not considered "requestable" and does not print
Both the pc_server and www_server should be restarted after making changes to tab15.
