    Can p_ret_01 or another service retrieve records based on 008 values?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
    Is there a way to use p-ret-01 or another service to retrieve a list of system numbers the 'fre' in the 008 field, positions 35-37?

    I did see KB 6543 and these are not options I can use at the moment.

    With p-ret-01, I tried retrieving based on:
    tag either 008 or 008##
    subfield either blank or #
    text from fre
    text to frez
    * and nothing worked.

    Resolution:
    Though most fixed field elements are not indexed, the 008 language *is* Word-indexed at your site -- and most every site.

    Here is the line from the abc01 tab11_word which does that:

    008 F35-03 41 WRD WLN

    You do not want to run p_ret_01. You can either run p_ret_03, specifying WLN as the index you are using, or just do a GUI search on the language and save the set to the server.

    Note: Besides KB 6543, KB 16384-8641 is another KB record which deals with p_ret_01 and fixed fields -- in case you encounter a different case -- where the field is not indexed. See KB 8192-2295 for an alternative using the Z00R.
