Course Reserves not displaying Bibliographic data in OPAC

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 19.01

    Description:
We are having difficulty after our upgrade to v.19 on TEST Server with displays of our Course Reserve data in the OPAC:

Problem 1: You may successfully call up a list of title for a specific course searching Reserves by Course Number (use ECO as an example search).
    - When you click on one of the titles, you view the full record, but it has all bibliographic data missing.

Problem 2: Displaying List view (Brief view) information for Course Reserves

Search Course Reserves by Course Name (use ECO as an example)
    - Select any Course Name that has more than 1 item.
    - Results are that there is no list containing bibliographic information (or course details for that matter)

    Resolution:
This can occur when you have:

    WEB-BRIEF expand_doc_merge_union_crs
    WEB-FULL expand_doc_merge_union_crs

    in the xxx30 tab_expand and:

    * the base being searched is not a Union base (that is, the base doesn't begin with "U-"), or
    * the z120 and z127 equivalency records do not exist in the xxx30 library; or
    * the xxx30 tab100 does not have UNION-LIBRARY=1.

If it is your intention to use the Union View for Course Reserves -- as most sites have done in order to handle titles linked to multiple courses --, then you must {as described in as described in the "Upgrade Express 18.01 to 19.01 User Guide" (section 8.3)*, and in the "System Librarian's Guide -- Course Reading and Reserves" (section 10.3, "Union View Indexing")} do the following:

    1. (Since I see that you have no z120 or z127 records in xxx30) run p_union_01, p_union_02, and create_z127 (dlib-ed to xxx30).

    2. Define a U-xxx30PUB base in tab_base.eng (copied from the xxx30PUB base)

    3. Change the base which is being used in the ./www_f_eng ...-xxx30 files from xxx30pub to u-xxx30pub

    4. Make sure that the ./xxx30/tab_expand WEB-FULL, WEB-FULL-1, and WEB-BRIEF have the expand_doc_merge_union_crs expand.

If it is your intention to *not* use the Union View for Course Reserves, then you will need to change the following lines in the xxx30 tab_expand from:

    WEB-FULL expand_doc_merge_union_crs
    WEB-FULL-1 expand_doc_merge_union_crs
    WEB-BRIEF expand_doc_merge_union_crs

    to:

    WEB-FULL expand_doc_course
    WEB-FULL-1 expand_doc_course
    WEB-BRIEF expand_doc_course
