Failed to read reply" logging in to hosted pc_server from campus pc's

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
We are getting "Failed to read reply" and "Password not verified on connectable hosts" messages when trying to connect to the Aleph (Ex Libris hosted) server with the GUI. The OPAC seems to be working normally.

This just started today; we were getting in fine yesterday.

    Resolution:
We see in the pc_server log that these users *are* getting to the server. The program being executed is pc_com_c0111. (I added diagnostics to the program, but it showed all "0" return codes.)

(As described in KB 16384-42625, the message "Password not verified on connectable hosts" is issued by the client, *not* by the server.)

Ex Libris staff were able to connect to this pc_server -- using the same port and log-in that the customer was -- and
successfully search, call up records, etc.

This indicated a problem in their getting out through the university's firewall to the Ex Libris server on this port.

The site contacted the university IT who made a change which corrected the problem.
