How to add another language in the GUI and Web OPAC

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
We need to be able to use, in addition, to “eng” a “language” “arc” (standing for Archival – our archivists use it).

    In the .\Alephcom\tab\conv_lng.dat, we have:
    ENG L English
    ARC L Archival

Is there a document which describes the different files which need to be considered in doing such localization for language?

    Resolution:
If you are using ARC in the Web OPAC, then see attached document.

    For GUI, see below….

The first language in conv_lng.dat is the default language.
All languages used in the GUI must be in conv_lng.dat.

After doing this you need to translate all the files (for example window.dat) under AL500\module\tab\lng .

For example, the files in the .\catalog\tab\eng\ directory would be copied to .\catalog\tab\arc\ and translated.

You will need to update the .\Cat\tab\arc\window.dat , \Acq\tab\arc\window.dat, and the other .\xxx\tab\arc\ files.

Since the window.dat file has changed between v18 and v20, you will not be able to simply use the v18 window.dat. You will need to integrate the two files with each other.

Also, the files in $data_tab and alephe_tab with.eng need to be copied to .lng and translated, and directories such as pc_display_lng need to be copied and translated.
