How to add internal note to item records with particular barcodes

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Description

We are moving our collection.  We have a file with the barcodes of each item in each box.  We have input this file of barcodes to the manage-70 Service and have output a file with the item record number of each item.  We want to add a value such as "Box 1" to the internal note field of each of these items, but the manage-62 Service has no option for internal note.

    Resolution

You can use the file of item numbers as input to the manage-63 Service, which *does* have "internal note" as an option in its field dropdowns.

You would specify the file produced by manage-70 as the Input File, leave the "From" box blank, and put a value such as "Box 1" in the "To" box.

Note 1:  If the item's z30_note_internal already has a value in it (that is, it's not blank), manage-63 will not write to it:  there's no provision for appending text to a existing value.

Note 2:  The z30 table should be backed up (via the file-03 Service) prior to running manage-63.
