How to create a new call number of type 'i'
- Product: Aleph
- Product Version: 22, 23
- Relevant for Installation Type: Multi-Tenant Direct, Dedicated-Direct, Local, TotalCare
Description
How can we create a new call number to use with Type i and the sign ? for the automatic call number creation for a library?
Resolution
There are 2 options to create a new call number
A) Create the relevant call number via Util F/2/24. Update Z311 (Location Counter)
Example
Enter record type (Q to stop) : 0
Enter sub library (Q to stop) : LUBC
Enter prefix (Q to stop) : XYZ
Record does not exist - continue (Y/N)? Y
Enter new last-sequence (Q to stop) : 1
0 = call number
1 = inventory number
results in
01 z311 \
02 z311_rec_key \
03 key_type ...........0
03 sub_library ........LUBC
03 prefix .............XYZ
02 z311_open_date .......20171005
02 z311_update_date .....20171005
02 z311_last_sequence ...00000001
or
B) Create a new combination with call number type 'i' in the item.
Prefixes do not have to be set up beforehand; when a new sublibrary + prefix combination i is detected, a new Z311 record is created. There is one Z311 record for each unique sublibrary + prefix.
Example:
Enter e.g. a new item with sub library MED, call no type 'i', call number: TEST 234.
The system will create a new entry in z311 automatically which can be checked and corrected using util F/2/24.
01 z311 \
02 z311_rec_key \
03 key_type ...........0
03 sub_library ........MED
03 prefix .............TEST
02 z311_open_date .......20171005
02 z311_update_date .....20171005
02 z311_last_sequence ...00000234
Additional Information
Additional information can be found in the Oracle description of table z311.
Note:
The system always uses the first number for the automatic numbering.
Therefore the structure 'TEST 126 G 1234' cannot be used to calculate the second number.
Valid call numbers and counters for type 'i' would be
- 'LGC ? G' to create the call number LGC 127 G.
- 'LGC ? G 1234' to create call numbers 'LGC 127 G 1234', 'LGC 128 G 1234' etc. where the 2nd number is a fixed text string.
