How to load items from spreadsheet into Aleph

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Description

We have a number of Excel Spreadsheets that contain fields with values that can potentially be uploaded to the Z30 ITEM table in the xxx50 database (with each Excel line being a row/record). We wonder if there are any existing programs/scripts that can be used to convert the data in the spreadsheets to the Aleph .seqaa files to be uploaded to the z30 ITEM table?

    Resolution

If your spreadsheet has all of the z30 columns in it, you could do the following.

In Excel you can do File --> Export --> Change File Type --> Text (tab-delimited).

The file-04 Service accepts an input file in either Fixed (the usual) or tab-delimited format. (As noted in the Help, the tab character is X'09'.  The input file would have the name z30.seqaa, etc.)

And then you would specify "Append" as the "Procedure to Run".

It would be better to do this on Test first.  Be sure to back up the z30 table before you start.

Note:  You should use just the 65 fields shown in the SQL description (rather than the 70 found elsewhere):  the p_file_03 delimited output -- which would be used for input to p_file_04 -- has, for example, no delimiter between the Z30-DOC-NUMBER and the Z30-ITEM-SEQUENCE, just the single z30_rec_key field.
