How to validate new value for LDR/17

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
For format MU we get the error message, LDR/17 Invalid value I. (capital I)

This is the encoding value, and "I" should be valid for that field.

Do we need to add more formats in our tab_tag_text? If so, what would they be? We currently have only BK and SE.

How should we modify that table (or is that the wrong table?) in order to establish other valid codes for LDR position 17?

    Resolution:
The table you want to modify for this is xxx01/tab/check_doc_field_ldr. It gives, for each Leader position, the option of performing some kind of check on its value. The relevant line is:

    XX 017 1 ^1234578uz

This indicates that for all formats (XX), the value at position 17 should be checked for legal values (1) and the legal values are ^1234578uz. These are all the values that are listed as legal for this position in the MARC Concise Formats from the Library of Congress. However, OCLC defines a number of other legal values, including capital I, and you can add these as desired.

The tab_tag_text table is only for default values for the leader and 008 fields if you create records manually, so you probably don't really need to mess with that.
