ILL search error: "Z39.50 target error: [111] Too many databases specified"

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Description

We have set up a z39.50 search for University of Minnesota campuses on our development server. The University of Minnesota is using Alma and had a recent service pack installed that supports z39.50 searching of campus locations.

We are able to search the U of MN campus locations for Crookston, Duluth and Morris and get results. When we search the Twin Cities campus we get an error message

Z39.50 target error: [111] Too many databases specified.

Only the Twin Cities campus has a space in the database.

    These are the databases:
       Twin Cities database: 01UMN_INST/Twin Cities
       Crookston database: 01UMN_INST/Crookston
       Duluth database: 01UMN_INST/Duluth
       Morris database: 01UMN_INST/Morris

I can use Search in ILL and get results for each campus using these titles or ISBN.
Crookston owns ISBN 9781590309179 Title “Touch a butterfly wildlife gardening with kids”
Morris owns ISBN 403007429 Title “ My summer in a garden”
Duluth owns ISBN 0442228848 Title “Grow your own vegetables”

When I use Search in ILL for the U of MN Twin Cities with the ISBN 9781401896355 and Title “Home horticulture principles and practices”. I get the error message:

Z39.50 target error: [111] Too many databases specified.

Can Aleph z39.50 search support a space?

    Resolution

Use "%20" in place of the space in the database name in the Aleph UMNTC.conf file:

    01UMN_INST/Twin%20Cities
