Importing offline circulation files to another version after Upgrade Express

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct; Direct; Local; Total Care

Our version 16 server will be down for the port of our current data to the version 20 server.

If we record the offline circ data using the version 20 Circ client, can we then use the version 20 Circ client to send the offline circ data to the server following Upgrade Express?

    Resolution:
The critical question is the format of the offcirc.dat file. The 20 and 21 version of the file (as seen in the pc_cir_c0434 program):

    02 TRANS-DATE PICTURE 9(8).
    02 TRANS-TIME PICTURE 9(4).
    02 TRANS-LOAN-FLAG PICTURE X(1).
    02 TRANS-ITEM PICTURE X(80).
    02 TRANS-BOR PICTURE X(20).

is different that the version 22 format:

    02 TRANS-DATE PICTURE 9(8).
    02 TRANS-TIME PICTURE 9(4).
    02 TRANS-LOAN-FLAG PICTURE X(1).
    02 TRANS-ITEM PICTURE X(80).
    02 TRANS-BOR PICTURE X(255).

Thus, the file can be imported to version 22 without conversion or modification (using the Circ client of the new version).

When migrating to Aleph 22 it is mandatory to use the Aleph 22 client for offline circulation.
