No Application Server License available at COBDIR location

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct,Direct,Local

    Description

After doing a (Linux) kernel patch -- routine maintenance -- and rebooting, the message "No Application Server License available at COBDIR location: xxxxx"  <where the location, "/exlibris/product/cobol5", is correct>  appears in doing dlib and other basic transactions.

    Resolution

    The cause was uncertain.

The two possibilities seem to have been:

        1. A change made by the patch which affected the Cobol license(s); or

        2. An Aleph system file change which was put into effect as a result of the system reboot.

Reinstalling the Cobol license(s), as described in Article "How to reinstall the licenses of the COBOL environment for Aleph" (see link below), and doing aleph_shutdown/aleph_startup corrected the problem.

Note that the reinstallation of the Cobol license(s) must be done as "root" but that the aleph_shutdown/aleph_startup must be done as the aleph user.
