Is there a limit to the number of lines in xxx50/tab/pc_tab_exp_field.lng for version 20?

There is no limit to the number of lines in pc_tab_exp_field.lng as far as the reading program is concerned.

First the program reads the files pc_tab_exp_field.lng and pc_tab_exp_field_extended.lng and counts the total number of lines they contain. Then the necessary memory is allocated. Provided that the local machine has enough memory to hold the required amount of data, there should be no problem with the number of lines.
