    Location and holdings appear more than once in Web OPAC for serial records

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
    In the WebOPAC, "Local Call No" and "Library Holdings" are duplicated for serial records.

    If you go to our catalog (WebOPAC), than "Browse an Alphabetical Index" and look for PER under "LC Call numbers". Pick any record (such as MIT Sloan Management Review) and you will see that "Local Call No" and "Library Holdings" appear two, three and even four times.

    Could you please check why it is happening and how should we fix it?

    Resolution:
    Util f/3/12 for abc01 doc record 000079724 (MIT Sloan Management Review) shows the following:

    ENTER HOME LIBRARY : abc01
    ENTER DOC-NUMBER : 000079724
    ABC50 000079724 ADM
    ABC60 000079416 HOL
    ABC60 000084332 HOL

    The PST expand creates a PST0 field for each HOL record -- even if the location is the same as another.

    All of the items are linked to the first HOL, 000079416. Why does the ABC60 000084332 exist at all?

    I find that it was created by OCLCxfer on 2008-01-16. It was created because the abc50 tab_z30 has "3" in column 11.

    ! COL 11. 1; ALPHA_NUM, UPPER; ;
    ! HOL record;
    ! HOL creation method;
    ...
    ! 3 - Create HOL records (check uniqueness with 852 field - if
    ! maching HOL record exists, a new one will not be created).

    And it's true that the 852 for 000084332 differs from that of 000079416:

    000084332: 8520 L $$bFHL$$4Felipe Herrera Library

    000079416: 8520 L $$bFHL$$iPER$$4Felipe Herrera Library

    -- the latter includes the $$i while the former does not.

    It seems to me that you should have "1" for abc50 tab_z30 column 11 -- instead of "3".

    The SQL (from KB 8192-2744 #4 -- To get non-deleted HOL records which do not have any items linked to them) can be used to locate these.

    In addition, there were other cases where there was only one HOL, but there were duplicate locations due to items with different material types. The expand_doc_bib_loc_n_x programs produce a separate PST for each separate material type.

    * ABC01 84946 is linked to only one HOL record (000084183). It has two PST's because the abc50 item 000084955-000010 has "BOOK" as the z30_material while the other items have "ISSUE" as the z30_material.

    * Similarly, ABC01 81982 has just one HOL, but it has item 000081982-000010 with z30_material "PER" while the other items have "ISSUE" as the material type.
