    My E-Shelf note entered doesn't display anywhere

    • Article Type: General

    Description:
    When we enter an e-shelf note, it does not display anywhere. There is a note column on the e-shelf screen but the note I entered on the myshelf-note-short screen does not display in it. Where is this note supposed to be displayed?

    Resolution:
    It appears that a few of your files are out of sync with one another and you are missing the display of the Note field. The fields that are selected for display on the "My E-shelf" display are controlled by the table: www_tab_myshelf_short.eng, located in the $usr_library/tab directory. In that table, you are specifying the inclusion of the Note field. But in $alephe_root/www_f, there are two other files that are involved in the display: myshelf-short-head-2-bcl01 and myshelf-short-body-bcl01. The sequence of variable codes you have in the "head-2" file is missing code "$1000". That is the header for the "Locations" column. So, the header on that column says "Notes" instead. The codes in the "body" file only go up to $1100, so you need to add at least one more line ($1200), in order to see the notes.

    For displaying the year data, there is a note in www_tab_short.eng which also applies to www_tab_myshelf_short.eng, although the note is not present there. The note (for column 5) says:

    Use for fixed fields only. This defines the starting position in field from which to take information. The number of
    characters to display is defined in the next column. Use 00 for entire fixed field. Note that if you want to display "year",
    you can identify this by code YR in column 12, if you have set expand_doc_yr in tab_expand section WEB-BRIEF;

    You do not currently have expand_doc_yr in your WEB-BRIEF definition, so adding this should make the year field appear in your "My List" display.
