Is there a batch process for updating the Barcode field?

We are currently removing all social security numbers from our patron database. We have completed the process for all types of IDs except the Type 01 Barcode Field.

We have thousands of SSNs in barcode fields. These are old records of patrons who still owe fines or have lost books. We do not want to delete the records.

I know we can pull up each patron record, delete the barcode, and let the system fill in a system-generated number. But there are too many to make this a feasible thing to do manually.

Is there a way to do this in batch? Basically, we just want to replace all the barcode fields in a set of patron records with a system-generated number.

Resolution:
Assigning a value based on the z52 last-bor-id-1 value would be complicated. Our database group could do that, but there would be a fee.

A better alternative would be to overwrite the ssn-based barcode with the Aleph patron ID.
