    New VerUtil.exe (backward-)compatible with Aleph 20.1.2 (SP 2539)

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
In regard to the ELUNA posting below: Can this be pushed out/put in place days (or a week or two) before we actually do the production server upgrade? That is, would/could this VerUtil.exe cause problems for the client interaction with a server at Aleph 20.1.2 (2539)?

    ELUNA Posting:

Action required for November Aleph version 20 Service Pack

For those of you on Aleph version 20 please note:

Before or as part of installing the version 20 November service pack you must download the file "VerUtil.exe" to each GUI PC.
The file should be placed on each PC in the directory ..\AL500\Alephcom\Bin\ and should replace the current "VerUtil.exe". This file can not be distributed via Version Check.

If you do not take this new file and replace the current "VerUtil.exe", then the GUI "Version Check" will not work with the new Service Pack.

The VerUtil.exe can be downloaded from two places:

    1) the Doc Portal under Aleph > Tree Search > Download Center > Service Packs (any time prior to SP installation) ; or

    2) your server after SP installation from directory:
    $aleph_dev/aleph/pc_exe/sp_exe/alephcom/bin

VerUtil.exe must be downloaded to each PC before the PC does Version Check following the Service Pack installation.

Note: the above "VerUtil.exe" was originally put on the Doc Portal on Sept. 7, 2010.
If you have already downloaded it from there to each PC, there is no need to do it again.

    Resolution:
Yes, the VerUtil.exe on the Doc Portal *is* (backward-)compatible with Aleph 20.1.2 (SP 2539). (SP 2539 is the May, 2010, Service Pack.)

Thus, you can get it and install it on your PCs in advance of your installation of the (November) Service Pack.
