OCLC: Message received during export: retries exceeded

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
When exporting records to our BIB library from OCLC and to our AUT library from OCLC, we receive the following error message:

    OCLC Gateway Export Status
Status: The local system has closed the connection: retries exceeded.
Host messages: The TCP/IP connection has been closed by the remote host.
Host messages: The TCP/IP connection has been closed by the remote host.
Host messages: The TCP/IP connection has been closed by the remote host.

We have mixed results on the server: We do now see bib records both new and overlay records as we should. However, the message above disturbs us.

For Authority records, we see the records overlaying but there are messages received that you are trying to open the record again and that the record is locked by the current user (probably a client setting that needs to be adjusted) HOWEVER, we do not find new authority records that are being brought in. Can you advise?

    Resolution:
I confirmed that authorities were being loaded, but weren't being indexed. This absence of index entries made it appear that the records weren't loaded. There are actualy multiple copies of the test authority records in the database. I found an error in the logs that suggested the absence of the z103 table (Links between Records) was causing the error with the authority indexing. This table is used in the authority file to link related terms - broader, narrower, etc.

We created the z103 table, and after restarting the indexing daemon I saw a new error - a missing tab07 table. This is the table that indicates which related records should be included in the z103 table. The site indicated that they did not want to build the z103 table, so the tab07 was removed. To confirm that the missing tab07 was the problem, I moved the copy from USM10 over to ABC10 and restarted the indexing daemon. We found that the authority indexes were then being handled correctly. However, the site still did not want to build the z103. They determined that the tab_z103 table was causing the indexing daemon to try to build the z103. To confirm this, they deleted the z103 Oracle table and removed tab07 and tab_z103. We found that this did, indeed, work. The indexing of authorities did work.

There are still error messages in the indexing process about the missing z103, but these do not appear to affect indexing, and the site would like to leave the set-up as is. They will ask the staff to test importing authorities from OCLC again to confirm that this is now working correctly.

I also informed the site that I found that a sequence (counter) was missing from z52. (The sequence is last-load-log-no.) This Oracle table is edited using UTIL G/2. This is a counter associated with logging for Marcive and OCLC. It is explained in the document 'How to Use the Marcive Document Loader (file-99) - 18.01'. I added to both ABC01 and ABC10.
