    ORA-04031: unable to allocate 27504 bytes of shared memory

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 17.01

    Description:
    We are getting errors, especially in our oclc_server logs like the following:

    Oracle error: handle_connection
    ORA-04031: unable to allocate 27504 bytes of shared memory ("shared po

    Our current setting is:

    SHARED_POOL_SIZE=268435456 #256M
    SHARED_POOL_RESERVED_SIZE=13421772 #13M

    Should these be upped?

    Resolution:
    From site: We believe that the problem here may have been a system setting. In particular, the semsys:seminfo_semmsl setting.

    We had to up our number of Oracle processes to 1000 and did not make the corresponding change to the system configuration. We have since upped the semsys:seminfo_semmsl number and rebooted the machine.

    See also KB 4108, which has info about other solutions to this problem.
