    ORACLE 10 can't be started on test server

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
    Following the instruction documentation for ORACLE upgrade (How_to_Upgrade_Oracle_Software_and_Database_from_10.2.0.4_ to_11.1.pdf) after the new installation of aleph 20, I was trying to start ORACLE 10 on test-delcat.udel.edu, but got the following error:

    ================================================
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production on Wed Oct 21 11:00:43 2009

    Copyright (c) 1982, 2006, Oracle. All Rights Reserved.

    Connected to an idle instance.

    idle> startup
    ORA-16032: parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST destination string cannot be translated
    ORA-07286: sksagdi: cannot obtain device information.
    SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    idle>
    ================================================

    Please help diagnose this problem as soon as possible. I assumed the new installation has the sample database installed in parallel to the old database.

    I'll call shortly after submitting this incident as this is urgent.

    Thanks.

    Resolution:
    After talking to our local ORACLE support guy, I realized aleph 18 database was wiped out during the last upgrade attempt from aleph 18 to 19 earlier this year. That's why the errors. I'm working with them to restore aleph 18 database. This case can be closed for now.
