    ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress" manually starting Oracle

    Description:
    Yesterday, I cloned the version 16 Oracle 9 database and upgraded it to Oracle 10. When the upgrade was completely successful, I shut manually shut down the database and backed it up.

    Today I manually started up the aleph18 instance but I am getting the following error when I try to access it as the aleph user:

    Resolution:
    From site: "I realized what I did wrong: I did a STARTUP MOUNT when I manually started the database. I neglected to open the database. It is working now."
