    Description:
We are in the process of migrating an Oracle 9i to 10g release. When I ran the preupgrade scripts (utlu102i.sql) , it is complaining about "stale statistics":

WARNING: --> Database contains stale optimizer statistics.
.... Refer to the 10g Upgrade Guide for instructions to update
.... statistics prior to upgrading the database.
.... Component Schemas with stale statistics:
    .... CTXSYS

Can I run the statistics before the migration? Please let me know, what is your recommendation?
I believe if the stats are not there, it may take a long time for migration.

    Resolution:
No version of ALEPH makes use of Oracle Statistics.
In versions 16 and 17, they cause obvious, pervasive problems. (See KB 4373.)
In version 18, they cause less frequent, more subtle problems. (See KB's 8192-2730, 8192-2731, and 8192-4991.)

The CTXSYS Oracle user is a very minor part of the system, used only if you have the ADAM component (which North American sites do not). In ALEPH, without ADAM, it relates only to one table: the Z91 -- which is empty.

It is not worth it to run Statistics just in connection with this one table, which is empty anyway. We advise that you not do this. See KB 8192-3980 for more information on the version 18 solution.
