Oracle on separate server (TWO_TASK environment)

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23

    Desired Outcome Goal:
We are interested in separating the Aleph Oracle database from the Aleph application server. Currently, we have them both running on the same server. Is there any documentation for this kind of a move? Are there any special considerations we need keep in mind?

    Procedure:
The "Aleph 2System Administration Guide" has sections 2.3. ("Working With Remote Oracle Tables") and 2.4. ("Working in a TWO_TASK Environment"). It can be found in the Documentation Center.

As described in the preceding, the parameter which specifies the database server is ORA_HOST in $alephe_root/aleph_start -- but the $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora also needs to match.

You should be able to make these changes in ./aleph_start and ./tnsnames.ora, and then run aleph_shutdown and aleph_startup.

In the AIK (Aleph installation kit) appendix F is related to this topic.
