Orders for Serials never display as arrived

    • Article Type: General

    Description:
Orders for serials never display as arrived. I am uncertain if this is just the way ALEPH behaves or if it is something that can be configured or made to change to arrived. One of our campuses has expressed concern because it appears an order was never recieved even when items are checked in on the subscription record. Obviously we can not use the arrive node on the order tab because it is a serial order. It is made more confusing because the Order Info screen gives a next claim date even if items are arrived and not needing claiming.

An example of this can be see in record # 2368148. The journal has arrived issues but the order has an arrival status of not arrived and a claim date on the order of 4/05/07.

    Resolution:
The z68_arrival_status (the arrival status displayed in the order record) is relevant only for monographs and defunct periodicals. If all the items for a title have arrived, then the z68_arrival_status will have a value of "C" (Complete).

An active periodical is, by definition, not complete since there are issues which will arrive in the future .

I see four items for abc50 ADM 2368148. Two of them have arrived and two of them have not yet arrived.

It seems to me that the Arrival Status should be ignored in this case and for other active Serials. You need to check and see if items exist. That is how you tell if any issues have arrived.
