    Question

Are fines charged for days where the library is closed (per tab17)? Do tab17 Closed days count as grace days?

    Answer

Whether fines are charged for days the library is closed depends on the fine-method. The fine-method is column 14 in the ./xxx50/tab/tab16: The "open-days" methods (A 1 2 C D) will not include closed days in the fine. The "total-days" methods (B 3 4 E 7 8 9) will. The closed day values used are those in the tab17 in effect at the time the item is returned.

Note: Regardless of whether the method is "total-days" or "open-days", closed days are counted against the grace-period days. The system looks at tab17 in calculating the due-date (to prevent the loan from coming due on a Closed day). The system does *not* look at tab17 and does *not* consider Closed days in deciding whether a day should be counted as a grace day.

    Additional Information

    Example:
An item is due on Saturday, July 6. Sunday, July 7, is a closed day in tab17. The relevant tab16 entry has a grace period of one day. If the item is returned on Monday, July 8, an overdue fine will be applied since 8 - 6 = 2, and there is a grace period of just one day.
