Preventing creation of loan history (for privacy reasons)

    Description:
We are investigating ways to help libraries not create loan history (for privacy reasons). The following is our recommendation so far:

    In the xxx50 tab100:

    CREATE-Z36H=N
    CREATE-Z37H=N

The loan history will still populate for the session, so there are also files on the local pcs which should be cleared daily:

The Circulation Loan history is stored in the C:\AL500\CIRC\files\XXX50\loan.log .

The Return history is stored in the C:\AL500\CIRC\files\XXX50\return.log .

In addition, the circ logger may be disabled by changing column 2 to N in the library tab_circ_log.eng file and the service to scrub patron ids could also be run by individual libraries if they wished to do so (Remove patron IDs cir-32).

Is this the best way to keep from creating loan history, or is there another way? Also, if the loan.log and return.log are cleared daily, will all circulation statistics be lost?

    Resolution:
The steps you describe are the way to keep from creating circ loan history.

The circulation statistics come from the server's xxx50 z35 (event) table -- not from the individual pc's loan.log or return.log.

Running p_cir_32 with "Update Events Table" as the operation will change the z35_id to an "SCRnnnnnn" number. This makes the event *not* traceable to a particular patron but preserves it for use by the Circ statistics program.
